بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The Battle of Uhud was a significant battle fought between the Muslims and the polytheists of Quraysh of Mecca in the year 3 AH.

The Muslims initially had the upper hand, but the tide turned when many of the archers disobeyed the Prophet’s orders and left their posts to collect spoils, thinking the battle was over. This allowed the Meccan cavalry, led by Khalid ibn al-Walid, to launch a surprise attack from behind, resulting in chaos amongst the Muslim forces.

On the day of Uhud, when the people fled, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on his own in some part of the battlefield with twelve men, including Talha ibn ‘Ubayd Allah رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ, and the polytheists caught up with him.

It was narrated that Aisha and Umm Ishaq, the two daughters of Talha, said:

“Our father received twenty-four wounds on the day of Uhud, among which a square cut on his head. His sciatic nerve was damaged, and his fingers paralyzed, the rest of the wounds were on his body. He fell unconscious, and the Rasul of Allah ﷺ moved him backwards. Every time one of the polytheists drew near, Talha fought to defend Rasul ﷺ until his back was against the mountain.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Talha did a deed that made paradise his due, when he did for the Rasul of Allah ﷺ what he did.”

Due to his bravery and the significant wounds he received during the Battle of Uhud protecting the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he became known as “The Living Martyr.”
