بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
There is a misconception that angels are not a material existence and are not considered a body (jism).
This short syllogism will explain as to why this is not the case.
P1: Angels have movement.
P2: Movement is an accident [1] which is attributed to bodies.
C1: Angels are bodies.
Premise 1: Angels have movement.
This premise is very easily proven by many verses in the Qur’an.
“And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam”; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.” [2:34]
Premise 2: Movement is an accident which occurs in bodies.
A body is a being with dimensions stretched out in space. Therefore, either this body occupies space while not having been in a different space during the previous moment in time (rest), or the body occupies its space while having been in a different space during the previous moment in time (movement or motion).
Conclusion 1: Angels are bodies.
This is the conclusion drawn via the premises aforementioned.
جَزَاكَ اللهُ خَيْرًا
