بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Sayyiduna Zubayr ibn al-Awwam رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ was one of the ten promised paradise explicity in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ where he said,

“Abu Bakr is in Jannah. ʿUmar is in Jannah. ‘Ali is in Jannah. ‘Uthman is in Jannah. Talha is in Jannah. Zubayr is in Jannah. ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf is in Jannah. Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas is in Jannah. Sa’id ibn Zayd ibn ‘Amr ibn Nufayl is in Jannah. Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah is in Jannah”

His faith was unshakeable, and upon his conversion at approximately the age of 8, he began to be heavily disuaded into abandoning Islam. However, even while being tortured, he refused to renounce Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ and His Messenger ﷺ .

Abu al-Aswad narrated,

“Zubayr’s uncle would fasten him in a mat and burn smoke in his face so that he returns to kufr. In the face of this torture, he would declare, “I will never disbelieve.”

Additionally, according to many scholarly accounts, he was the first to unsheathe his sword for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

His son, ‘Urwah, narrated,

“Zubayr accepted Islam at the age of 8. Once, shaytan spread the rumour that Rasulullah ﷺ was apprehended in the upper section of Makkah. Zubayr rushed instantly―only 12 years old at the time―with sword in hand. Those who saw him who did not recognise
him said in amazement, “A youngster with a sword.”

Finally, he arrived by Rasulullah ﷺ. “What is the problem, O Zubayr?” asked Rasulullah ﷺ.

“I was informed that you had been seized,” he explained. “So what were you planning to do,” Rasulullah ﷺ enquired.

“I would have struck the one who seized you with this (sword),” he affirmed.”

Sayyiduna Zubayr was also known as The Hawari (disciple) of Rasulullah ﷺ.

Sayyiduna Jabir narrated,

“On the day of the battle of the Trench, the Prophet ﷺ wanted somebody from amongst the people to volunteer to be a reconnoitre.

al-Zubayr volunteered.

He demanded the same again and al-Zubayr volunteered again.

Then he repeated the same demand (thrice) and al-Zubayr volunteered once more.

The Prophet ﷺ then said, “Every prophet has a disciple and my disciple is al-Zubayr.”

May Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ be pleased with him and the rest of the noble companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!
