بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

It is rationally impossible for Allah سبحانه و تعالى‎ to tell lies by agreement of Ahl al-Sunnah.

From the Ash’ariah, Imam al-Sanusi states,

“It is impossible that Allah could lie, because His Speech must agree with His Knowledge, and Speech in agreement with Knowledge can’t be anything but Truthful.”

[Sharh Umm al-Barahin]

From the Hanabilah, Imam Ibn Balban says,

“Everything which is truly irrational within the limits of knowledge and reason, is preposterous for Allah. Hence, Allah is not described as having the ability to do that which, in the context of His Glory and Loftiness, is absurd such as lying or oppression.”

[Qala’id al-Iqyan]

From the Maturidiyyah, Imam al-Shurunbulali says,

“It is not permissible to describe Allah Most High as having the ability to oppress, to be foolish, or to lie because that which is inherently inconceivable does not fall under the realm of the divine attribute of Power.”

[Maraqi ‘l-Sa’adat]
