بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Qadi Abu Bakr al-Baqillani al-Maliki refutes the claim of the Ash’airah having irja’

“And know that the essence of faith (iman) is belief (tasdiq).

And know that the place of belief (tasdiq) is the heart, which means that the heart affirms the truth.

And know: We do not deny that faith (iman) consists of belief in the heart (tasdiq), confession by the tongue (iqrar), and action by the limbs.

And likewise, we do not deny that faith (iman) increases and decreases, as stated in the Qur’an and the Sunnah.”
