بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Shaykh Nur ad-Din as-Sabuni al-Bukhari al-Hanafi writes:

“As for the raising of hands to the sky during supplication and asking [from Allah], it is like the facing to the Ka’bah in prayer with the affirmation that the worshipped (i.e. Allah) is transcendent above containment in the Ka’bah. Then the meaning in that is the treasures of the servants’ sustenance is given from the heavens.

Allah says: “And in the heavens are your provisions and whatever you are promised” – [Qur’an 51:22]

Similarly, the angels descend from the heavens with the provisions of the people. And man is made to tend to go towards that direction from where appears the initiated thing of outcome. Like the Sultan when he promised his soldiers dispossession and sustenance, they tend to go to the treasury side, even if they are certain that the sultan is not in the treasury.”
